  10.     Every business needs to have a plan to track its
  11. progress.  There is no business too small, too large, too
  12. complex or too simple to avoid having a business plan. I
  13. found that many business plan programs assume that you are
  14. going to raise money in the public markets.  However, the
  15. vast majority of businesses are started without large
  16. outside investments or fund raising campaigns. This program
  17. is designed for use by any business, large or small, whether
  18. you are raising money or not.
  19.  
  20.      I didn't write this program in an ivory tower some place, but
  21. out of my own business experience. For seven years, I imported
  22. cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest of Germany, so this is
  23. definitely a "cuckoo" program!  I have been involved in many other
  24. business ventures.  I'd be lying if I said I made money with all
  25. of them. But I can truthfully say that all were successful, mainly
  26. because I followed a plan and stuck to it.

  28.      BUSINESS PLAN MASTER supplies you with complete template
  29. files. I give you professional formats (footnotes, tables
  30. of contents, some simple graphics), some excellent sample
  31. text and several spreadsheet files for you to use. Alone
  32. these could save you many hundreds of hours of work. Because
  33. of the wide diversity of businesses and business ideas, I
  34. have tried to make these files as universal as possible.
  35. Over time, you will likely incorporate your own language
  36. into the text and make modifications to the worksheets.

  65. advanced) knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.

  76.     If you want to get started right away, just read these few
  77. lines:

  79.      FIRST, take a look at what is here.

  81.     Get into your word processing program.
  82.  
  83.     Open the spreadsheets in your spreadsheet program. The
  84. best file to look at first is BPM Proforma Financials,
  85. either Excel 3.0 or MS Works 2.0 version. I highly recommend
  86. that you do your spreadsheet work first. Make sure your
  87. business idea is going to be profitable before trying to
  88. write the textual portion.

  90.     Open the BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file. It is titled
  91. "Business Plan Master" and has one of the following program
  92. types in parentheses (Word), (Works) or (Text). This is the
  93. main BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file which will contain the
  94. verbiage you will use.

  96.     If you are now hopelessly lost, take a look at the
  97. User's Guide. By registering at the *PROFESSIONAL* level, I
  98. send you a printed User's Guide along with other valuable
  99. items.

  106. Works 2.0. The spreadsheet files are in Excel 3.0 and Works

  175.      Shareware describes a method of distributing
  176. copyrighted software in which a user is allowed to fully
  177. evaluate the software before purchasing it.  After an
  178. evaluation period, the user is required to register the
  179. product if s/he decides to keep using it.

  181.      Shareware distribution addresses all the legitimate
  182. complaints that users have with commercial software
  183. distribution.

  185.  •    Shareware allows a user to fully evaluate a product, free of
  186.     charge, in his or her home, *before* deciding to buy it.

  188. •    Shareware programs can circulate freely on Bulletin
  189.     Boards, through Shareware disk distributors, or through user

  202. show their appreciation to developers for this extremely
  203. flexible distribution scheme by registering their software.
  204. Without user registrations Shareware software would
  205. gradually disappear.  It is not sufficient to simply let the
  206. "other guy" pay the registration. You are the other guy's
  207. "other guy".

  211.     Shareware is not "free" software.  Shareware is not
  212. Public Domain software.  The fee that you may have paid to
  213. receive a Shareware program does not mean that the software
  214. has been paid for. This money was paid to a Shareware disk
  215. vendor, User Group, Bulletin Board Service or retailer to
  216. cover their cost of getting the program to you.  Shareware
  217. software is paid for by registering your copy with the

  225.     BUSINESS PLAN MASTER has been under development 
  226. for over four years.  During that period it has been in constant use
  227. by its author.  BUSINESS PLAN MASTER was originally
  228. developed for the IBM PC.  It was rewritten to run on Apple
  229. Macintosh computers. The development now is done
  230. concurrently, wherever I feel like working on a particular
  231. day.

  237. Version 1.2 - Released March 1992 - Expanded emphasis on
  238. service businesses, changes in User's Guide to make it

  242. MacWrite II. Many cosmetic changes and change of number
  243. format to ease international use. More changes in User's
  244. Guide to help understanding of financial terms and phrases.
  245. Got rid of many extraneous files and added more humor.

  247. Version 2.5 - Released December, 1992. I moved to God's
  248. Country (NW Montana). Took out MacWrite II files, added
  249. Microsoft Works (many requests for that!), added some
  250. more goodies when you register, added a few things here and
  251. there to the text and the spreadsheets. Took out SYLK files,
  252. too. They didn't work as advertised in Microsoft's manual.

  259. PLAN MASTER has changed considerably since its conception,
  260. and it has been further enhanced since its Shareware

  263. perfectionism has rubbed off on me!  I have already spent
